today, you are seven months and 12 days old. your mommy has been really bad at updating the internet with pictures and news to your development and all of the wonderful ways that you’re growing.

dear august,

last night was rough. you were restless for most of the night. constantly grunting, kicking, or rooting around the outside of momma’s night gown what felt like every fifteen minutes.

i felt like i didn’t get any sleep at all.

and as frustrating as that can be when i was so tired at 2:38 am, it was all okay to smile down at you while you were nursing and whisper a, “hey bud” and then be greeted back with a pause from eating and, seconds after, the corners of your mouth going up to show a smile that i saw to say, “thanks, mom.”

you really know how to tug at my heart.

and i really love you.

while writing out an entry to sum up august’s first month in the world, i decided to write it out in letter form to him to share with him when he’s old enough to care and read about it. i decided that our public blog would be the best way to chronicle this as it would never be lost, won’t take up space, would be easy to type and save, and would be easy to find and make available to august when and if he ever wanted to read it.

this is also late getting up because august really has done a good job of keeping my hands tied…and when they’re not tied, i can promise to you that i’m sleeping or spending some quality time with the hubs (mark) which are all three more important to me than keeping this up to date.

i fell asleep earlier than usual last night. i didn’t even realize it until i woke up at midnight to mark on the couch with august…watching time cop. if i wasn’t so exhausted i would have made fun of how into it he seemed. but poor guy. i felt pretty guilty falling asleep and leaving him to take care of august but i was so exhausted. i guess that my body is still trying to adjust to all of the sleep deprivation and mark was a dear heart and didn’t want to wake me.

there really is nothing like caring for someone else in this way.

i know i have so much to learn as a mother…as a wife and a person even but i feel so perfectly placed in this role as a mother to august and a wife to mark. so much so that just typing those words and feeling those feelings makes my heart swell and my eyes wet with tears.

today was one of the tougher days i’ve had with august. it came after a good night, however, no matter how good the nights can be, mark and i still aren’t getting much sleep…so, i’m seeing a good night doesn’t really balance a tough day out very well if we aren’t very rested and don’t have much energy to take on feisty baby days.

nights are getting a bit easier. last night was a pretty good night. we still got to bed late but i did get a good uninterrupted three hour stretch of sleep…and august is sleeping in his bassinet right now which is huge as he had taken to not wanting anything to do with it the past few days. so, if you were wondering, i’ll complete that thought for you and let you know that, yes, he did sleep with us during that time, BUT he slept in his bassinet no prob last night and he is right now so we’re crossing our fingers that it sticks.
