01) i’ve become really crappy at maintaining any online presence that doesn’t have anything to do with twitter. being the huge nerd that i am– this actually makes me feel really guilty. the redeeming thing about this is that i’ve gotten to spend every minute of my time away with my little baby son and that has been wonderful…and something i wouldn’t give up for anything.

02) august is growing more and more every day. it is scary, amazing, beautiful, exciting, and sad…all rolled together. talk about a huge emotional ball of “wow.” for us anyway.

03) a couple of weekends ago, i noticed that august’s started cooing and imitating. whenever we talk to him he grins, opens his mouth slightly, and stretches his neck as if he wants so badly to speak back to me. to be silly, one day, i started making an “ooohh” face and then suddenly switching it to a big open mouth smile…over and over (and yes, i did look as foolish as it may seem that i would). as august watched my mouth intently, he started moving his mouth in similar ways. he doesn’t have it down quite yet but it’s still pretty neat.

04) i had my post-partum check up and everything is healing as it should. i feel pretty great (minus the migraines) but am soooo ready to lose this baby weight already.

05) i am reeeeally excited that autumn is on its way. even though august has no clue, i am all sorts of excited to celebrate his first halloween/thanksgiving/christmas/new year. i’m a sucker for the holidays.

dear august,

last night was rough. you were restless for most of the night. constantly grunting, kicking, or rooting around the outside of momma’s night gown what felt like every fifteen minutes.

i felt like i didn’t get any sleep at all.

and as frustrating as that can be when i was so tired at 2:38 am, it was all okay to smile down at you while you were nursing and whisper a, “hey bud” and then be greeted back with a pause from eating and, seconds after, the corners of your mouth going up to show a smile that i saw to say, “thanks, mom.”

you really know how to tug at my heart.

and i really love you.

okay, moms (or anyone else that can help), i need help.

i did a not so bright thing and threw a wet wash cloth and a few of august’s things that were possibly spit up on (including his super cute dinosaur boppy cover) in the bottom of his hamper. and, after doing laundry and folding it all, i noticed that those specific items had dark spots (mold) on them.

today i think i had the worse migraine that i’ve had…like ever.

i woke up with a small one this morning. and only having one migraine in the past ten months, i didn’t take heed to the warning and take care of it the way that i should have. usually when i get a hint of a headache, the best thing for me to do is eat something and take some extra strength headache medicine to kill it before it gets worse.

i have been really crappy at updating this with pictures of august. if you have a facebook and we’re facebook friends, you can see pretty up to the date images there. however, i understand not everyone has a facebook. part of me wants to say, “everybody should have a facebook,” and the other part of me wants to say, “you’re probably better off.”

anyway, so i’m kind of totally jocking sarah and adrian’s picture idea but, really…it’s a good idea for the months like august when i just sucked at keeping this updated with pictures.

also, i am well aware that this post would have come much sooner if i weren’t so anal about the images being the appropriate sizes. this took longer than you’d think it would…especially having a brand new baby and a really seksi husband fighting for my time. i can’t complain.

while writing out an entry to sum up august’s first month in the world, i decided to write it out in letter form to him to share with him when he’s old enough to care and read about it. i decided that our public blog would be the best way to chronicle this as it would never be lost, won’t take up space, would be easy to type and save, and would be easy to find and make available to august when and if he ever wanted to read it.

this is also late getting up because august really has done a good job of keeping my hands tied…and when they’re not tied, i can promise to you that i’m sleeping or spending some quality time with the hubs (mark) which are all three more important to me than keeping this up to date.

it is absolutely gorgeous outside. it feels just right. i have the blinds drawn, the sliding door open (the screen is shut), phoebe is laying in front of the window watching a couple squirrels battle it out on the huge redwood right outside of our patio and, right behind her, august is snoozing peacefully in his swing. every once in awhile, i’ll hear a little snore kick in and august’s hands go up as if to say, “i surrender to you sleep, i surrender!!”

i know that there isn’t a whole, whole lot we can be doing with august right now to keep him stimulated. it seems his favorite things to do are eat, sleep, and sometimes just test his lungs and punch/kick his little arms and legs.

august has been a bit fussy the past few days. he’ll go from peacefully sleeping to loudly crying (almost screaming) instantly. of course it doesn’t go on for very long before one of us picks him up. in other words, he is easily consoled so i am pretty confident that he doesn’t have colic.
